Not much sun for the past 2 weeks. Needed hot water to run the system

2 ktvs over 2 weekends, one session with xinli, liang kwang, chun jian and his gf xiao li.

Today was with some friends I got to know during the Sentosa Imbiah challenge.

Well gotta comment that the new Kbox system is kinda unfriendly since the singers not in alphabetical order. Lol today I got to sing some grasshopper songs at double speed. Dunno if it's the system or they have a remixed version.

Inspiration

I guess inspiration is usually 无形 and it can hit anyone anytime. For me, I guess I don't really have much inspiration when writing lyrics. Maybe I'm 词穷, maybe I don't have much experience in certain aspects but sometimes I guess it's through observation or other aspects that people can write out lyrics.

Life after EPL for first time in 16 years

Newcastle began life in Championship for the first time in 16 years against WBA. Mangerless and still looking for a buyer, Newcastle managed a 1-1 draw after Duff equalized in the 55th min. Things could have gone worse if not for a offside decision correctly given against WBA in the dying seconds of the match.

Certainly, a new owner and a manager is definitely needed before the transfer deadline as Newcastle are seriously lacking depth in the squad with Kadar, Lua Lua and Ranger among the subs bench, significantly reducing the average age of the squad (with it the lack of experience)

I think that Newcastle should get a couple of proven Championship players and a proven goal scorer.

4 left fighting out for survival

2 out of the 4 from Sunderland, Hull, Newcastle and Middlesborough will be relegated.

Middlesborough are currently sitting in 19th spot with 32 points (GD of -28)
They have the toughest task of surviving since they need Newcastle and Hull to lose and Middlesborough to win by a huge scoreline against West Ham, since goal differential for Middlesborough is 4 behind Hull, else they have to hope Hull gets trashed by Man United. If Newcastle draws and Hull loses, Middlesborough will have to win by at least 11 goals which I think is quite impossible

Newcastle are 1th with 34 points and a GD of -18, the best among the 4 clubs.
Survivial would be out of reach if Hull and Sunderland both win or Newcastle loses. If Newcastle gets a win, they have to hope either Sunderland or Hull to either draw or lose. If Newcastle gets a draw, they have to hope for Hull to get beaten by Man United since they have a better goal difference than Hull.

Hull are 17th with 35 points and a GD of -24. A win would ensure another season of EPL. The other scenarios are mentioned earlier.

Sunderland are 16th with 36 points and GD 0f -19. A win ensures safety.

台上三分钟台下二十四年功

Yesterday was Grasshopper's Right Now concert. A lot of classic songs were sung out with a new life injected to it for some of the songs. So it's kind of refreshing. 2 years ago at their Forever Grasshopper concert, their theme was more towards African tribal. This year their theme was circus. A lot of the songs that were sung yesterday they didn't cover it 2 years ago, though a lot of them were snippets. I think they do have a headache over song selections, either it's sing a full song at the expense of leaving out so many other classic songs or sing many of their classics but snippets of it.

A tribute was also made to their mentor Anita Mui and also to 张国荣. I only started to stand up and got high during the later part of the concert after 宝贝对不起 & 暗恋的代价 were sung and after that it was a series of fast songs that it's hard to make you sit. Another reason why I stood up so late is because the people around me were sitting down.

The only downside is probably certain songs are being left out, notably 怎么天生不是女人 and all along I was hoping they would cover more mandarin songs.

They say they'll be coming back again to celebrate their 25th year anniversary in the music scene, I do hope there'll be surprises installed.

Temperature Check

Temperature checks are probably done islandwide now. My brother's taking his temperature at work. I also got asked to stop and have my temperature scanned at Bedok Camp. NUS is also screening temperatures before exams. I guess it's a precautionary measure taken but swine flu is much more powerful than SARS in a way that it can spread anytime, unlike SARS which can only be spread when the symptoms start to show. Hope this wave of attack can be curbed soon.

Where would Newcastle play next season?

8 games left, 24 points up for the taking.

Next game is against Chelsea at SJP, who are still in the title chase. It should be a tough game. I suppose any points obtained in this clash will be a bonus. Newcastle had a string of tough home fixture in the last 2 games, with Man U winning 2-1 and Arsenal winning 3-1.

The home games against Middlesborough, Portsmouth and Fulham are quite important, with Middlesborough and Portsmouth rivals for the dreaded relegation spots.

The away games left are against Stoke, Tottenham, Liverpool and Aston Villa. A result against Stoke will do wonders since Stoke are also in relegation troubles. Newcastle have been in good form against Tottenham in recent league games so I banking on the form to continue. I'm not that optimistic with Newcastle getting a result at Anfield. As for the game against Villa, I'm actually hoping that their recent league form will stretch until the last game since a team in bad form will actually find it hard to get out of it.

Iluma

Iluma opens today, though sad to say it's not totally ready yet. Renovation works were still being carried out. Some of the shops are still empty while some parts of the floor are not tiled yet, which makes it a hazard while walking if one is not careful enough. The 4th level is totally not ready yet. Filmgarde has a $6 ticket promotion for movies though I'm not sure how long does this offer last. The arcade is located at the 5th level and most of the games are in japanese language, though today it's not open to public. I didn't go beyond the 5th level since it's not ready yet. I suppose that's where the ktv and pubs etc will be located as stated in a website that I read earlier. It's also one of the malls that won't have a supermarket within the premises. I suppose I will visit it again once the renovation works are finished.

Phew! I thought I was going for a 3rd date with one of the testers. I ended up accumulating 18 demerit points for the 2nd attempt. Though this time round I got a totally different set of demerit points than what I got in the first attempt. Oh well least I got this load of my shoulder.

2nd Driving Practical Test- Coming Soon

Hoping that nothing major happens on the day of the test which is on 250309. Seems like after resuming driving after 1st test situations happens.

1) Green light green arrow in my favour. As I was about to turn right I noticed that a truck that was speeding towards in the opposite direction. This made me stop and indeed the driver just sped through the junction.

2) As I was about to turn left after checking my blind spot, a dog suddenly appeared in front of the path. Hence I braked hard.

It's like anything can happen, so hoping for the best.

Figures won't lie

Watched the news and it says that about 14k of graduates are still looking for jobs as of Dec 08. I guess that's probably in line with the recent economic downturn. It is also mentioned that companies are less willing to give new blood a chance.

Grasshopper Right Now Concert

It's on 9th May and my family's going to catch them at the Indoor Stadium. I caught them in concert in 2007 with my brother and they surely didnt disappoint fans of Grasshopper. I do wonder what would be installed for this concert.

Songs wise I do believe that it will be pretty much the same songs. Probably the difference would be in the clothes their wearing. I'm sure that it will definitely be worth the money. The only bad part is that I don't understand cantonese so probably I won't understand what they will say.

Survivor: Tocantins so far

First 2 episodes were kind of standard, with winners of challenges getting flint and the losers eventually getting fire once after their tribal council though there were some differences like both tribes having to so called vote for someone based on 1st impression, although this vote doesn't involve in the survivors leaving the game, instead the 2 people would not make a trek to their new camps. Once back at camp they were given a note stating that a hidden idol is at camp and only good for the first tribal council that the tribe goals, though ultimately they didn't find the idol.

Exile Island is back again and the format of exile island are:

1) Winners of the challenge assigns a survivor of the losing tribe
2) The selected survivor must then choose someone from the opposing tribe
3) Once at exile, the 2 survivors must choose an urn, where only one of the urns contains
a message
4) The message contains clues to the whereabout of the hidden idol as well as the ability to make a decision on changing tribes

With that I do believe that one of the survivors will somehow make this move is given the chance especially during episodes just before the merge. My reason for saying that is because tribal switch will most likely occur sometime in the game and it can result in an upset in the team dynamics, such a move might change the complex of the game

Launch of Youth Olympics Logo

Today was the logo launch for the Youth Olympics. I was there to help a friend to do the 2km run (for my case walk since i guess there's not much point running with the crowd) since she was helping out with the goodie back giveaway for the run. I saw Shimin and Guimei there as well, think Guimei's taking her class to the event. Besides the run, there are other activities as well, such as wrestling, basketball, handball etc.

A mini Sec 4 class gathering on 131208.

We went to TopOne KTV. For some, the last time I saw them was during O Levels results. For the others, I manage to see them somewhere before.

Met up with some of the Sotong people last Fri for KTV and zi char.

Last Sunday went to watch the AFF Suzuki cup semifinal 2nd leg. Singapore vs Vietnam. Eventually Singapore lost 1-0 in that leg, though Singapore definitely had their chances to win the game but things like that happen in football.

Survivor Gabon So far

Sugar probably has set a record for going to Exiled Island and for the most consecutive times also.

Twists are usually present in Survivor, for example those who were voted out previously gets a 2nd chance to return to the game and the introduction of Exile Island and the chance of finding a hidden immunity. This season's twist lies in the choice of comfort in Exile Island and a 2nd tribal switch. Tribal switches are common nowadays but a 2nd tribal switch does change the dynamics of the game and Marcus was the victim of the tribal switch. At 10 people it's usually holds true that a merge is coming but not in Survivor Gabon. Now I do feel that members of the original Fang tribe are likely to win Survivor.

I guess being a physical player gives you an advantage in Survivor. However there would also be a huge target on the back of the players. Luck and twists also plays a part, if you're unlucky enough, a tribal switch changes the whole game.

Y2J Campus Concert

I was at Y2J's campus concert yesterday with my brother. Kailing helped me got the tix through Xuan Yu. I must say I'm really impressed by them after hearing them sing live. They sang 5 songs from their album and had a games session with 4 people in the middle of their performance. Haha I'm sure that one of the guys would have problem sleeping after Jane laid on him to pose for a photo. I bought the album at the spot and let them autographed it. Both of them are friendly too.

My brother's Maple Story got hacked

As the title suggests, my brother's account got hacked. He realised that his character was at the free market and he found that it's a little strange since he usually logs out at his usual training area. Then he saw that his potions at the shortcut menu are at 0. So he checked his items and stuff and realised his equipments and meso are gone. All's left is the equipment on the character and the items in storage. I guess it isn't safe even if you never disclose your password and stuff. Those who intentionally wants to break into the account will have means and way to do so.

FM 09 Demo

The demo for FM 09 is out. It's more detailed than ever I have to say.

For instance, managers get to attend press conferences, though I have to say the questions are reused in most instances.

3D match engine is introduced for the first time. However the players look kinder cute running around. Well I do believe that this aspect of the game will be further improved with future installments of FM. Also the coach will give you a detailed happenings on the pitch such that tactics adjustments are necessary in the game.

For example, information such as:

1) The players have communicating. This probably holds true if a foreign player just joined the team and can't speak the language.

2) The team's short passing are not effective.

3) I'm also updated of who's making mistakes or who's passing wasn't good and the likes of the opponents outnumbering my midfield.

Boon Lay MRT Extension line

It will start operation on 28th Feb 2009

Since I'm touching about MRT, let's go on talking about it. Below is a diagram of the current layout of the rail system map (there will be updates for certain with plans of new stations).

For me the current station that is closest to my place would be Kallang. However that would change once the Circle line starts operation, with Mountbatten station being the closest to my place.

I'm not so certain if I would actually travel the Circle line that much. The most likely scenario will be perhaps travelling to areas in the north whereby I would take a train to Bishan and transfer to get to TPY or AMK or perhaps getting down to Dhoby Ghaut I would definitely not take a train at Mountbatten and take down to Stadium -.-" (I'm not lazy to that extent)

Weekend of 11th Oct and 12th Oct

On Saturday I went Sentosa to play volleyball with some of my 04 Oweek friends and some of Liang Guang's secondary friends, some of which are my fellow course mates whom I seen before but never really know. I ended up getting sunburnt, my hand didnt manage to reach some parts of my back.

On Sunday, we went to my niece's first month celebration. Some of them joke that now my cousin wont be getting all the attention already since there's a new addition to the family.

Been trying to look for primary school classmates/friends on facebook recently.

Certain people I do remember but some I do not really remember. I suppose this applies to most people.

To be certain if a particular person is a friend of yours there are some ways to do so:

1) See if you have mutual friends

2) By photos but if the profile is set to private it's gonna be difficult depending on what photo is posted up.

Update~

Let's see. My brother is back in Singapore on Saturday afternoon and reach home about evening time. Before that, I went K Box with my usual clique @Suntec, after which I headed to the Cats Recruit Fair. I didnt send in applications there. On the way out I heard people behind me saying it's a waste of their time.

On Sunday, I went over to my aunt's place for steamboat.

My third driving lesson was on Tuesday. I reached at about 1220+pm and waited under the rain for my instructor and the gal before me who was learning driving to drive back to the waiting area. This time I finally got the hang of it and didnt stall engine though I saw a Pizza Hut bike and the rider on the ground at a zebra crossing. There was an L-plate car in front of the bike. I didn't know what happened. Either the car stop and help the person in distress, else the bike might have banged onto the car.

Birthday Party@ Kallang Mac

I attended a birthday party yesterday@ Kallang Mac and the birthday boy is Benjamin. The party room's chair and table were meant for kids I think and we looked giants in there. We played some games there, finding items and musical chairs, forfeit being dished out in the process. The cake was replaced by 25 cupcakes and tennis is the theme.

After the party we went to KLP (Kallang Leisure Park) to walk about. Saw Joan's boyfriend there. We ended up at the arcade as most of the movies started to screen already. We also ended up in an antique shop and saw a lot of old stuff. (Although I wonder why is there a togepi(A Pokemon character) toy in one of the displays). Fen bought a top at WH while the rest of us were standing in the shop talking.

We headed to Old Airport Road Hawker Centre for dinner/supper before heading home.

Last day of September, I had my 2nd driving lesson just now. I think I really need to reset my memory on army style driving as I'm applying what I learnt in army to my 1st 2 lessons. Ubi area is really packed with vehicles and I have to be constantly aware of various stuff. It rained half way through my session but luckily it isn't that heavy.

1st driving lesson

I had my 1st driving lesson (civilian style that is). It's been like 4 years plus since I last drove a manual vehicle. I must say the army vehicle and the civilian one is quite different in a way that the pedals for the army ones are much harder.

Driving a civilian vehicle is definitely more comfortable since one is not wearing the uniform and the vehicle is airconditioned and also the instructor is far more friendly.

Generally, driving lesson is ok but guess I have to be more aware of the roads I drive around.

More bad news for Newcastle on the field. Newcastle lost 2-1 at St James Park in a League Cup 3rd round encounter. Who's Zakumi? Zakumi's the mascot for World Cup 2010 that will be held in South Africa.
What does Zakumi mean? ‘Zakumi' is a composition of ‘ZA' standing for South Africa and ‘kumi', which translates translates into ‘10' in various languages across Africa.

The giant mascot doesn't really have striking green hair though as seen from the drawings.

3rd consecutive lost

Newcastle lost their 3rd consecutive EPL game to West Ham at Upton Park. Goals from Di Michele (2) who was making his debut and Etherington and Owen's consolation completed the scoreline. After yesterday's matches Newcastle is now in 19th spot and could go to 20th if Tottenham manages to win their game against Wigan due to a better goal difference.

Advanced Theory Test Cleared

I cleared my ATT just now, checked my answers 2 rounds before submitting my final answers. I did feel negative energy surrounding me. I took a glance at the 2 people beside me and they didn't manage to pass. Then when I look across there's one person that didn't pass too. So I was like oh no would I suffer the same fate? Long Day

Yesterday was a long day in a way.

My family sent my brother off to the airport yesterday morning. He's at Vietnam for a 3 week job attachment.

In the afternoon, I accompanied my mother to the Travel Fair organised by Chan Brothers at Suntec City. My mother, some aunts, uncle and some cousins decided to go Taiwan for a trip. We saw my brother's teacher there also. His family plans to go to Japan after their son's O Levels.

After booking the trips, we went to Gleneagles Hospital to visit my cousin and her baby. The baby's name is Rachel and her chinese name is Ruimin. Although I must admit the ward is kind of warm.

Newcastle crashes to Hull at St James Park

As the title suggested, Newcastle suffered a home loss at SJP under the hands of Hull by a 2-1 scoreline. Marion King grabbed a brace, one of which a penalty which Given nearly kept out. Xisco who made his debut scored the consolation goal. Guthrie got himself sent off towards the end of the match. The board of directors were absent from the match after Keegan resigned.

Mike Ashley has since announced that he has put up the club for sale after making an official statement which can be found at the Newcastle website

World Cup 2010 Qualifier

I guess there are 2 result of the day in the matches that concluded.

The first one would be England beating Croatia 4-1 away with Walcott securing a hat trick and Rooney scoring the other. This banishes the nightmare of 2 years ago when they lost to Croatia by a scoreline of 2-0.

The second one would be Luxembourg getting their first ever points in a World Cup Qualifier against Switzerland by beating them 2-1 away.

Paralympics: Singapore wins first—ever medal through Equestrian

SINGAPORE : Singapore’s Laurentia Tan has won a bronze medal in an Equestrian event on Tuesday, giving the country its first—ever medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. Tan, who rode on horse "Nothing To Lose", took third placing in the Individual Championship Test Grade 1A event. Britain’s Anne Dunham and S Christiansen took the gold and silver respectively.

Tan will be the first to receive the Athletes Achievement Award (AAA) set up by the Singapore National Paralympic Council. The award comprises a monetary reward of S$25,000 for her bronze medal in the individual event.

A scammer called to my home number this morning and my mum answered the call.

According to my mum, initially she thought something bad happened when she heard the other party cried. Then next came 妈妈我被打了，快来救我. From then on my mother knew it was a scam and she became fed up. However the scammer seemed persistent and kept saying that same line. Then my mum asked him what's her name. He said 妈妈. After which my mom just hang up the call.

Well, just a few thoughts. What if

A) The household is non-Chinese
B) The household doesn't have children

New Combat Uniform for army

Probably I will get my new uniform in 2010 judging from the information provided in the link, since I should be having my 6th ICT in 2010.

From the photo, the new uniform and helmet does blend in much better with the vegetation as compared to the current uniform.

One thought did come to my mind though, what happens if someone gets injured or fainted in the vegetation. I guess it will be difficult to locate the person.

Football Manager 2009

SI games first released information of the upcoming Football Manager 2009 (FM 09). According to the video, a 3D match engine will be first introduced into Football Manager. I'm kind of looking forward to it but also thinking if my laptop would be able to support it? Haha, well I guess if the 3D match engine crashes my laptop users can always revert to the 2D match engine. I'm sure that people would prefer looking at 3D players passing the ball instead of watching at least 22 big circles (the players on pitch, the referees, the physios and the subs on the bench) and one circle of variable size (the soccer ball) running all about around the pitch.

Shopping at Parkway with Mum

I accompanied my mum to Parkway today to exchange Sing dollar for Vietnamese Dong, since my brother is going to Vietnam in less than 2 weeks time. Well my mum exchanged $150 Sing dollar at exchange rate of $1 Sing for 10302 Vietnamese Dong. After which we walked about in Parkway and went NTUC to get stuff for my bro's bday/farewell party this Saturday. I guess that's about the only time when my mum can actually buy more stuff so that she won't have to carry the stuff all by herself. Also there was a Bridgestone Ferrari F1 race car on display at Parkway Parade. There's also the simulator there but think it's only entitled for customers who spent $50 at Parkway. Haha so wondering if I want to try the simulator? Haha

Kevin Keegan 'leaves' Newcastle

This was what I saw at Soccernet earlier. So far, Newcastle United has not issued any club statement with regards to this issue.

Personally, I feel that it does not bode well that managers leave after being in charge for a short period of time. I think that for a club to grow, a manager must be given the time and trust to build upon the squad, together with the manager's vision in order to bring the club forward. Sir Alex and Arsene Wenger has been great examples of managers sticking to one club for a long time. They have the time to slowly build their squad and develop them into sides capable of challenging trophies. David Moyes would be another good example. Despite finishing 17th in one of the season after they finish 4th ahead of their arch rivals Liverpool, the club still stuck with him.

The new trend for getting success is money. Chelsea benefited from Roman's abundance of money. Man City might be the club that may challenge for honours in future after Thaksin sold Man City to Dr Al-Fahim's Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG). And look what Man City got, Robinho from Real Madrid. That shows the owner's intent of bringing future success, if not instant success for the club.

For now I'm waiting to see if the official club page issues an official statement regarding KK.

1st Sept, 1st Interview of the Month

Does anyone wants a good alarm? Energy's 放手 fits the bill!

I had trouble falling asleep the night before and a phone call woke me up at about 815am. The caller was from HR officer asking me to go for an interview. I agreed to go for the interview at 230pm. Interview was alright but I had to wait for about 2 weeks before they decide they want to employ me. Xinli was also having an interview so I went met her after the interview since we're both out of home and the interview venues are close.

Earlier the day Xinli was mentioning if the interview didn't go well probably I would have to dissuade her to jump the Singapore River. Lol. Luckily I didn't have to do that but still we took some photos which isn't really normal, just for laughs I would say.

Above was one of the photos that was taken. Not Phelps in the making, I do not really know how to swim in the first place. Haha, I do wonder what if I really lose my balance or some idiot go and push me from behind, someone please save me. I do hope it'll be 3rd time lucky for me =)

Match 3: Arsenal vs Newcastle

Newcastle's unbeaten start in EPL was halted by Arsenal as Robin van Persie scored the first 2 goals and Denilson added a 3rd to provide Arsenal with a 3-0 win which I feel is truly deserved for Arsenal.

It could have been worse if not for Given who saved numerous shot (according to Yahoo Fantasy Soccer, he made 8 saves) and cut out possible shot course angles against Theo Walcott. Newcastle squad was thin with Duff and Martins being injured last week, so Owen and Ameobi started but both were largely spectators.

Well, guess what KK said about challenging against the Big 4 is a difficult task on hand. After the international break, Newcastle will face Hull @SJP. Probably it's a good thing Wigan trashed them 5-0 yesterday. =P

EPL 08/09 Kicks Off

Quite happy that Newcastle managed to get a 1-1 draw against Man U at Old Trafford. Man U were lacking several first team players and perhaps they miss C.Ronaldo the most. Probably Newcastle would not have conceded the goal if Steven Taylor was at the sidelines receiving treatments. Given was back to his best form and this can be shown by the double save he made.

A week later Bolton visited St James Park and once again Given save Newcastle with a penalty save from Nolan and Owen comes off the bench to replace the injured Martins to secure all 3 points with a header after a cross by Geremi. Typical Owen I should say, leave him unmarked and he will score.

Arsenal's up next and I'm sure Newcastle will be full of confidence despite injuries to Duff and Martins sustained last week and the transfer of Milner to Aston Villa.

Engin Bash 08

Engin Bash 08 was held at Gotham Penthouse yesterday. I was suppose to meet Ben, LK and Lionel @Clarke Quay MRT station at 7pm but ended up late by 1/2 hour. Probably should have taken 12 instead since it's a direct bus. LK and Ben were having their dinner when I reached and we proceeded to the bash venue after their dinner.

The female pageant winner looks much better in person than on the photo. I do wonder if she's taller than me with the heels on. We felt that the male pageant winner looks a bit like James when he presented the prize to the winner.

I guess maybe I have to admit I'm old? But I'm glad to see some familiar faces there also, people from my batch, people from last year's orientation etc.. Also saw faces I've seen before like Yiuyan's OG, didn't really manage to talk to them except for a few. Haha, guess probably no one will remember how I look like. =x

I left the place at about 11plus since most of the friends I came with left the place already and the people I know are probably scattered all over the place.

Composing

Can it be done easily?

Is it good to have some form of musical background?

Just tried adding a melody for the verse to a previously melody for the chorus that I thought of sometime this year. The problem is I'm not sure if the verse and the chorus actually match. Haha, even if it matches there comes the problem of arranging the music and also a particular melody might sound familiar even if you're not thinking of a particular song. So do I have any musical talent? I do not know. =P

Olympics drawing to a close

Today's the last day of Olympics but there are still some gold medals to be given out before the closing ceremony starts, like the basketball gold medal match that is currently contested by USA and Spain. 3mins left in the 3rd quarter and the score stands USA 84 Spain 76 after USA converts 1 of 2 free throws.

Guess there are many highlights in this Olympics, the most talked about would be Phelps winning 8 gold medals of which 7 are in WR times. On a national level, the most talked about highlight would definitely be Team Singapore Women Table Tennis bagging their 1st silver medal in 48 years. I do believe the prospect of medals in the 2012 games in London is there, with swimming providing another opportunity besides the Table Tennis team. Tao Li's efforts in the 100m Butterfly event was there for Singapore and the world's best butterfly swimmers to see.

Other highlights that I still remember in my mind during the past 2 weeks:

Liu Xiang dropping out of the 110m hurdles race due to injury.
Usian Bolt breaking the 100m WR
USA 4x100m teams crash out during the heats due to dropping of baton
A contestant from Cuba in Taekwondo assualting an umpire after losing in the bronze medal match.

I do wonder if Singapore will have the chance to host the Olympics. =P

Olympics

Currently watching Olympics 800m and made me wonder about the qualifying procedures for athletics and swimming.

For swimming heats, they will look at the timing for all of the heats and the best 16 will qualify for the semis.

For athletics heats, the best 3 of each heat will qualify and the next best few timings from the remaining people who didn't qualify will get selected.

I think it's kind of unfair especially for long distance runs since if your the pace setter, they can run with a slower time and yet qualify for the finals.

Let's see if that is applied to the swimming. There might be a chance Tao Li can win a medal, since during the semi finals she put in her all to qualify as the 4th best timing. If she had conserved some of the energy and manage to qualify as one of the best 3 without over exerting herself. Then during the finals she can give it her best. Things might have been different but well it's over now.

Good luck to Team Singapore Ping Pong Team for their semi final match at 230pm.

Same Place Different Feel

Went back to NUS to sell my FNA textbook to Susheel yesterday. Haha basically everything looks the same but the people are different. Not much familiar faces left since my batch has already graduated. Then met some of the Sotong people for lunch since they set OG lunch on Wed. I went to Co-Op after lunch hoping to get some comics, only to discover the comic section has been removed. So I ended up taking bus 10 to Katong area and walked over to Parkway Parade to get my comic. =P

Unexpected Event

My 2nd uncle (My father's younger brother) passed away this afternoon. My mum called me and told me about it when I was on my way to meet my friends. The news was definitely a sudden one and none of us would expect it. Heard from my mum that he either felt giddy or fainted at work this morning and was sent to hospital but nothing could be done to save him and he was gone just like that. I had to head back home since I wouldn't have the mood also and perhaps we would have to help out with the preparation of his wake. It turns out that his body can only be collected earliest tomorrow. I believe it's for the autopsy report. Currently my parents are at my aunt's place but I guess my aunt would be inconsolabe at the moment.

NLB Library Book Sales

It's on at Expo Hall 4A from 180708 to 200708 from 930am to 800pm. English/Chinese books are at $2 while Malay/Tamil books are at $1. A pack of magazines cost $5. I got myself 3 books yesterday. I guess it depends partly on fate if you get to see the books that you want, since the books are not sorted in any particular category except than languages, adults or kids and fiction/non fiction.

130708 marks the end of uni phase of my life.
Probably I wont get to see a lot of the people again after this ceremony.
Took quite a number of photos with family and friends.
Didn't manage to take with some as there are a lot of people are dispersed inside, outside and around UCC.
Wanted to take a photo with someone but ended up didnt approach and ask. Guess I'm regretting it now. heh..

Superband Season 2

The first 8 teams started the competition at 8pm earlier on. The top 3 favourites in random order are 肥皂，三月 and 异世界

I'm kind of impressed by 肥皂's lead singer. I think it's a challenge for him to sing Chinese songs being a non Chinese and to rap in Chinese, I really admire him for that.

I also like 三月's lead singers voice, quite unique.

I think 蒲公英 might be the one to go later tonight but of course I dunno how the viewers/fans will vote so shall see 1130pm later, cuz I think really bands have a slight advantage.

Update

Results were out and 蒲公英 was the first team to be eliminated. Guess probably their fanbase were not strong enough. I believe that the scores by the judges were close but ultimately for competition of this nature you will need a strong fan base support to progress to the next round.
